Olukayode Ariwoola is a Nigerian jurist and justice of the Nigerian apex court, the Supreme Court. He was sworn in as the Acting CJN on Monday 27th June 2022 by President Muhammadu Buhari. 

Before his new role as the CJN, he served as a Justice of the Nigerian Courts of Appeal and was promoted and appointed to the bench of the apex court, the Supreme Court of Nigeria as a justice on merit. 

Ariwoola is presently awaiting the confirmation of a judicial body, the National Judicial Council (NJC), and the National Assembly (NA). He is hoping to replace Muhammed Tanko as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Ariwoola then proceeded to Muslim Modern School in the same town from 1968 to 1969 and later attended Ansar-Ud-Deen High School Shaki, Oyo State where he completed his High School.

Ariwoola started his legal education at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife in Osun State where he spent 5 years before obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB).

He proceeded to Nigerian Law School and was called to bar before his enrolment at the apex court, Supreme Court of Nigeria as a Solicitor and Advocate in July 1981.

Like every other successful lawyer in Nigeria, Mr. Ariwoola started his legal career in the State chapter. He served as a State Counsel on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Ministry of Justice, Akure, Ondo State, and later as a Legal Officer in the Ministry of Justice before he decided to venture into private practice. 

Mr. Ariwoola worked as Counsel in Chambers of Chief Ladosu Ladapo, SAN between October 1988 and July 1989. He later decided to set up Olukayode Ariwoola & Co – a firm of Legal Practitioners and Consultants in Oyo town in August 1989. This job and his victories brought him to the limelight and he was later appointed in November 1992 as a Judge of Oyo State Judiciary. 

He also worked in several other establishments such as Chairman, Board of Directors, Phonex Motors Ltd – one of Oodua Investment conglomerate between 1988 and 1992, Chairman, Armed Robbery Tribunal, Oyo State between May 1993 and September 1996 when he was posted out of the headquarters, Ibadan to Saki High Court.

His job at the Supreme court did not come as a surprise because he served in all fields before that. If we recall, Ariwoola also served as Justice of the Court of Appeal in Kaduna, Enugu, and Lagos Divisions before he was called to serve at the apex court, the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
