5 International Artistes You Never Knew Were of Nigeria Origin

The global music industry has for many years continued to experience changes in all directions. As it stands, the well known musicians are fast drifting away as the new ones are beginning to take over the microphone.

Over the years, Nigerians listened to, and enjoyed mainly foreign musics but today, things are no longer the same. Nigerian artists all over the world are setting the pace as they are beginning to dominate the African and global music industry. With the likes of Ayo Balogun popularly known as Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage all receiving Grammy Awards in 2021, some talented local musicians are now working tirelessly to see that they also get to the list of International Award Winners before the year runs out.

1. Chamillionaire

Hakeem Temidayo Seriki AKA Chamillionaire is an American rapper from Houston, Texas on November 28, 1979. He was born to a Nigerian Muslim father and an African american mother in Washington D.C before moving to Texas at the age of Four. So far he has released 3 studio albums, 3 EP’s and 2 collab albums.

2. Tinie Tempah
Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu better known by his stage name Tinie Tempah is a British rapper and singer. Tine was born in London to Nigerian Igbo parents in 1988. Tinie is also a prominent figure in modern British fashion in 2012, he was named best dressed man in GQ’s Men of the Year Awards. He has released 3 studio Albums. He has also featured popular Nigerian Superstar Wizkid in his track “Mamacita”.

3. Tyler the creator
Tyler Gregory Okonma AKA Tyler, the Creator, is an American rapper and producer. He was born in Ladera Heights, California in 1991 to a Nigerian Father and African American mother. He has won several awards including Grammy awards, Brit awards and VMA. He has released 6 studio albums.

Tyler the Creator is not just an ordinary guy, dude got the talent. He also got the bag so don’t get it twisted.

4. Not3s
Lukman Odunaike , better known by his stage name Not3s, is a British-Nigerian, rapper and actor from Hackney, London. His breakthrough song, “Addison Lee”, has been described as a viral hit, achieving 16 million views on GRM Daily. He has released ine studio album and two mixtapes so far.

Not3s is not a regular entertainer, the young man got the talent in abundance.

5. JME
Jamie Adenuga known in as Jme, is a British rapper, songwriter, producer and DJ who was born in Hackney, and raised in Tottenham. He is the co-founder of the crew and label Boy Better Know alongside his brother Skepta.
He has released four studio albums so far.
